New Juice Bar dTox to Open in Midtown

How many times have you told yourself that you’re going to start eating healthier but you end up eating the same foods over and over again? Well, it’s time to put down your burger and start juicing!

Opening in early November, the dual concepts of dShop and dTox will provide what Starbucks can’t: tables available for rent by the hour, allowing customers to take meetings, print materials and more in a sleekly-designed space complete with a juice bar.

dTox will offer fresh, organic juice made from locally sourced ingredients available for table renters and walk-in customers. Juices are available in individual 16 oz. compostable cups, or in the signature “dTox Box.” Ideal for cleanses, the “dTox box” contains six 16 oz. bottles, including two Red Juices (beet, carrot, cucumber, spinach, romaine, dandelion, ginger and lemon), two Green Juices (kale, spinach, cucumber, celery, watercress, apple, parsley and lemon), one dTox Water (water, lemon and cayenne pepper) and one Brazil Nut Milk (brazil nuts, coconut water, dates, vanilla, sea salt and water), as well as two elixirs, including one Wheatgrass (wheatgrass and cucumber) and one Aloe (aloe gel fresh from the aloe plant, pear and lemon). The box is available for $50 per day, with a $1 deposit for each glass container, which will be washed and reused upon return. Box orders must be placed one day in advance by 4 p.m.

In addition to the menu of juices, dTox will also offer a variety of fair trade, organic coffees and teas, such as the miracle hangover cure, Pu’her Tea, and “healthy junk food,” like organic chocolate chip cookies and vegan desserts from local company Ooh La Raw.

dShop and dTox are located in the heart of Midtown at 305 6th Street, Atlanta, GA30308. The hours are Monday – Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, visit www.dtoxjuice.com or call 404.771.6500.

King of Pops Field Day on October 23

I wish I had a dollar for everytime I’ve heard a girl say how good-looking the King of Pops brothers (Nick and Steven) are. I think my own wife has even mentioned it.

Well, luckily for us dudes, we have a reason to love these guys too. The chocolate sea salt, banana puddin’, pineapple habanero and lots of other flavored popsicles are simply the best in Atlanta. It’s impossible for me to pass one of their carts without stopping by and trying a new flavor or one of my favorites.

The King of Pops has achieved tremendous success in just a few short years and they are ready to give back with a FREE, all ages party called KING OF POPS FIELD DAY on Sunday, October 23, 2011 from 1:00 – 10:00 p.m. at Masquerade Park.

King of Pops Field Day will feature carnival games, field day games, Atlanta street food, costume contest, photo booth and more. Everyone who attends the event will receive a token for a free popsicle and a ticket for a free game. Additional tickets will be able to be purchased with proceeds benefiting Save Criminal Records Atlanta.

For more information, click here to go to the event Facebook page.

Chomp and Stomp Returns on November 5

Let’s face it, spending the day eating chili, drinking Sweetwater brew and watching bluegrass in the middle of Cabbagetown is just plain fun! The Chomp and Stomp Chili Cook Off & Festival returns to Cabbagetown Park on November 5, 2011 from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m.

For only $5, you can purchase a spoon which allows you to sample chili from more than 100 individuals/teams and local restaurants.  I’ve been the last two years and had a blast both years. Just make sure you arrive early. It gets packed in the chili tasting areas.

Grab a cold Sweetwater, find a place on the lawn and kick back with some bluegrass.

If you’re not familiar with Cabbagetown, read up on the area before you head down. Cabbagetown has some interesting history that makes the experience even better.

I will leave you with this music video from Shawn Mullins about Cabbagetown.

New Blog

I decided this weekend to bring back my RestaurantsATL blog. I originally started this website over 3 years ago to keep Atlantan’s informed on the latest restaurant news, events, and happenings. While I enjoyed writing the blog the first time around, I became too busy with work to maintain it so I eventually abandoned it and moved solely to twitter at @restaurantsatl.

My love and passion for the local restaurant (and bar) scene has brought me back for round 2. I’ve deleted the old content and I’m starting fresh. I hope you enjoy.
