Back in 2012, Chef Ron “The Angry Chef” Eyester hosted the Mother Clucker Fried Chicken Festival in Morningside and invited several chefs to participate in a little friendly fried chicken competition. Chef Todd Richards, representing the Ritz-Carlton Buckhead at the time, won the award (or rubber chicken) for “Best Fried Chicken” and returned again the following year as Executive Chef of The Shed at Glenwood, and WON again.
I was lucky enough to be a judge at the Mother Clucker Fried Chicken Festival both years and I thought Richards’ fried chicken was the best that I had ever tasted. When I heard that he was opening a fried chicken spot at Krog Street Market, I may have started drooling in anticipation.
Well, the day is finally here and Richards’ Southern Fried is officially open at Krog Street Market featuring classic, hot, and Richards’ HOT Fried Chicken. I went down for lunch and loved the Richard’s HOT Chicken Sandwich. I spoke briefly to Richards while I sat at the counter and he indicated that he will continue working at White Oak Kitchen as well as Richards’ Southern Fried.
Congratulations Chef Todd Richards…you deserve it!
