Tasting Your Way Through Taste of Atlanta 2012

Taste of Atlanta returns to Midtown on October 5, 6 & 7, 2012. The event, now in its 11th year, continues to be one of Atlanta’s most anticipated events with chef demonstrations, bar competitions and over 80 great participating restaurants.

I’ve had an opportunity to experience it from many different angles over the years. I was a judge for the event last year, served craft beer in the VIP tent in 2010 and attended most of the other years as well. If you’re going for the first time, you may find it tough to decide where to spend your tasting tickets with so many different restaurants to choose from. Here are some tips for getting the most out of Taste of Atlanta:

- Download the Taste of Atlanta app from iTunes. It shows the tasting menu for each restaurant, a map and a full schedule of classes each day.

- If you enjoy craft beer or wine, splurge on the $75 VIP tickets. Otherwise, you’re going to be envious of everyone in VIP sampling beer and wine all day. VIP’s also receive 15 tasting coupons and access to the Barcraft Competition and The Kitchen Workshop.

- Save a few tasting tickets for dessert. Sublime, Morelli’s and High Road Craft Ice Cream are all participating this year. It’s the perfect way to end the day.

- Skip the long tasting lines. I know the food may look amazing and it’s human nature to want to wait on whatever everyone else is waiting on but there are over 80 restaurants participating. Try something new.

- Don’t be afraid of the Family Food Zone. There are actually some great events in there this year including the Top Chef Kids Competition where Frank Ski and his son Harrison will battle High Road Craft Chef Keith Schroeder and daughter, Maddy on Sunday.

- Take Marta, especially if you have VIP tickets. The festival is just a short walk from North Avenue Marta Station.
